This time, we went to our neighbouring country Malaysia for a short weekend getaway dive trip! Tioman is a well-known dive spot for Singaporeans because of the close proximity to us and we don't need to take a flight to get there, making it much cheaper. The only way currently to get to Tioman from Singapore is to take a 2.5h bus/car ride from Johor Bahru (JB) to Mersing and take a 2h ferry to the west side of Tioman.
We went over the Good Friday long weekend, crossing to Malaysia on Thursday night and staying one night near Mersing Jetty. the next morning, we grabbed a quick breakfast nearby and took the 8am ferry to Tekek Jetty on Tioman. From there, we hired a ride to fetch us over to Juara on the eastern side of Tioman where our accoms and dive shop was located. We did our dives with Juara Scuba Academy, would totally recommend them if you are diving at Juara as they are very professional and fun! We stayed at a place called Santai Bistro Resort, which had nice room and a shared pool right outside. It was a quick 15min walk to the dive shop. There's lots of other good accommodations along the beach too!
My friend Jing Heng and I were already advanced open water divers, so we did our fun dives while our other friends did the advanced course. We had 7 dives in total, including a refresher dive. They even threw in an additional fun dive for us due to a boat failure before one of the dives! The instructors there are very professional and I would recommend anyone heading there to go with them!
All our dive sites were at the east side of Tioman. It is known that sea turtles and black-tip reef sharks are less common here. But during our trip this time, we did see many interesting animals like the blue spotted sting ray, a scorpion fish, Pufferfishes (common porcupine, seal faced puffer, giant puffer) and a great barracuda.
The sites we went to were:
The aquarium
Ajoy
Berlabuh
And also a few others that I forgot 😂.
Below is some diving photo spam!
